English

In the present study, in order to evaluate the effect of mechanical and biological watershed management measures implemented in the Ab-Mahi watershed on soil moisture, sampling was carried out at a depth of 30 cm using a randomized complete block design with seven treatments and three replications. The treatments included: gabion check dam, dry-stone check dam, cement–stone check dam, enclosure, almond planting, and the control sample. Data analysis was performed to compare the mean percentage of soil moisture in the different treatments using SPSS software. Duncan’s test was used to compare the treatment means. The results obtained from Duncan’s test showed that in assessing the effect of mechanical measures, the highest soil moisture belonged to the gabion check dam with 8.94 percent, and the lowest belonged to the control sample with 6 percent. The results obtained from the biological measures in the Ab-Mahi watershed showed that almond-planted areas, with 8.75 percent, had the highest soil moisture retention, followed by enclosed areas, and finally non-enclosed areas with 8.05 percent, which had the lowest effect. Therefore, based on the findings, it is recommended that a combination of mechanical and biological measures be used in watershed management programs in similar basins to improve soil moisture conservation.
